Rufus Campbell, 50, died April 18, 1970, after a 15 and a 16 year old youth clubbed him April 16 with a chain and
two-by-four and locked him in a room of their living unit before escaping from the Illinois State Training School for Boys at St. Charles.
The youths were later apprehended in Elburn and returned to the facility. They had sneaked the weapons into the cottage, which was undergoing renovations. Details on the names of the two youths or their eventual punishment for the murder, have not been found.
